The Kings went just 33-49 this season, Musselman’s first in Sacramento, and missed the playoffs for the first time since there 1997-98 campaign.
"I want to thank Eric for his energy and effort," said Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie. "I wish him the best of luck in the future. There is no particular joy in making this decision. However, I feel it is in the best interest of everyone going forward."
Musselman took over for Rick Adelman, who led the franchise to the playoffs in each of his eight seasons.
He came over from Memphis after two seasons as an assistant coach for the Grizzlies under Mike Fratello. Prior to that Musselman was head coach of Golden State, compiling a 75-89 record in two season with the Warriors.
