Houston, averaging 18.5 points in 50 games this season, has missed seven of the last eight games for the Knicks, who sit in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference with just six games remaining.
He is eligible to return for the team’s second to last game of the season at New Orleans.
Houston was placed on the injured list in February and missed 11 games with a sore knee that had bothered him all season.
Houston had arthroscopic work done on the knee this past offseason and was also forced to miss games in November and December because of the problem.
To fill out the roster, New York activated point guard Frank Williams, who played just six minutes against the Nets.
