Knicks place Mutombo on injured list

New York, NY (Basketball News) - The New York Knicks placed center Dikembe Mutombo on the injured list before Wednesday’s game against Philadelphia. He is expected to be out at least five games.

The team announced that Mutombo underwent an abdominal surgical procedure at Beth Israel Hospital Singer Division on Wednesday morning.

Mutombo, a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, is averaging 5.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 60 games with New York this season.

To fill Mutombo’s spot on the roster, the Knicks activated center Cezary Trybanski. Trybanski has missed the last 24 games with left patella tendinitis.
