The announcement Wednesday by Chief District Court Judge W. Terry Ruckriegle came at the conclusion of three days of pretrial hearings.
Bryant was in the Eagle, Colorado courtroom for the proceedings, but is still expected to be available for Wednesday’s Game 5 of the Western Conference quarterfinal series between the Lakers and Rockets at Staples Center.
The 25-year-old Bryant is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on June 30 at a Colorado resort, a Class 3 felony with penalties ranging from four years to life in prison or 20 years to life on probation.
Bryant, who was in Colorado for surgery on his right knee at the time of the alleged assault, claimed the two had consensual sex.
Meanwhile, two important issues have yet to be resolved — whether the accuser’s sexual history can be used as evidence against her at the trial and a request by the defense team to throw out evidence that includes a hospital examination of Bryant.
Ruckriegle also ruled that hearings to determine whether the woman’s medical and mental health history is applicable to the case will be closed.
