(Basketball News) - The Los Angeles Clippers had their five-game win streak halted with an overtime loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday. Sam Cassell scored eight of his season-high 30 points in overtime as Minnesota earned the road win at the Staples Center.
Corey Maggette tied a career-best with 34 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Clippers, who were attempting to win six straight for the first time in a dozen years. The Clippers last won six in a row from March 18-31, 1992
Bobby Simmons chipped in 15 points in the loss.
After the teams traded baskets to start the extra session, Cassell put Minnesota up 96-94 with a jumper at the 2:34 mark. A made free throw by Simmons on the ensuing possession got the Clippers to within one, but Eddie Griffin buried a three-pointer with 1:51 to play for a four-point cushion.
A steal and coast-to-coast layup by Cassell with just under a minute left in overtime pushed Minnesota’s advantage to 101-96 and Latrell Sprewell followed with a jumper to seal the win.
The Clippers will play the fifth test of a seven-game homestand on Monday night against Charlotte.
