Lowly Heat welcome Hornets

11.25.2003

Miami, FL (Basketball News) - Miami Heat will attempt to halt a three-game losing streak tonight when they welcome Baron Davis and the New Orleans Hornets to AmericanAirlines Arena for an Eastern Conference matchup.

Miami lost to the Phoenix Suns, 100-98, on Saturday at America West Arena.

Rookie Dwyane Wade scored a career-high 27 points and Lamar Odom added 24 for the Heat, who wrapped up a five-fame road trip at 1-4.

The Heat are 2-2 at home this season.

Davis’ slam dunk with 1.3 seconds left lifted the Hornets to a dramatic 81-80 victory over the Detroit Pistons at the Palace on Sunday.

Davis finished with 18 points, seven assists and five rebounds for the Hornets, who have won three straight on the road and five of their last six overall.

Jamaal Magloire posted 20 points and a season-high 15 rebounds in the win over the Pistons, while David Wesley added 16 points. P.J. Brown chipped in 12 points and 12 boards for New Orleans.

Davis has done it all so far this season for the Hornets. He comes into the game leading New Orleans in scoring (24.7 ppg), assists (8.0 apg) and steals (3.14 spg). The 24-year-old Davis is also pulling down a respectable 4.7 rebounds per night.

The Hornets are 5-2 on the road this season.

In 2002-03, New Orleans swept all four games with the Heat, winning twice at home and twice in Miami.

Overall, the Hornets have won seven straight and eight of the last nine meetings between the two squads.

These two teams have split the last 12 contests in Miami.
