Magic name Westhead assistant coach

11.29.2003

Orlando, FL (Basketball News) - The Orlando Magic named Paul Westhead an assistant to newly-named head coach Johnny Davis on Friday.

Davis took over when Doc Rivers was fired after leading the Magic to a 1-10 start. Orlando has not fared any better under Davis, dropping its first five games under the new coach.

Westhead has over 30 seasons of coaching experience at the professional and collegiate ranks. He has served as head coach in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers (1979-82), Chicago (1982-83) and Denver (1990-92). He has a career 184-224 record as a head coach. Westhead led the Lakers to an NBA World Championship in 1979-80.

Westhead has also been a head coach for a number of NCAA schools. He has guided collegiate programs at La Salle, Loyola Marymount and George Mason, compiling a record of 285-223 in 18 seasons.
