Magic, Raptors clash in Toronto

03.21.2007

(Basketball News) - The Atlantic Division-leading Toronto Raptors try to stop a two-game losing streak tonight when they open a brief two-game homestand versus the Orlando Magic at the Air Canada Centre.

Toronto, which is fourth overall in the Eastern Conference, has dropped two in a row after a four-game winning streak. On Sunday the Raptors suffered a 92-74 loss to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, as Chris Bosh poured in 21 points with seven rebounds in the loss.

T.J. Ford added 14 points in defeat for Toronto, which will host Orlando and Denver at the Air Canada Centre where it is 23-10 this season. In injury news for the Raptors, guard Anthony Parker (ankle) is questionable and guard Jose Calderon (ankle) is doubtful for Wednesday’s game against Orlando.

The Raptors announced on Wednesday that rookie forward Andrea Bargnani underwent successful surgery for a non-perforated acute appendicitis. Bargnani is averaging 11.5 points and 3.9 rebounds in 64 games this season. No timetable has been set for Bargnani’s return to court.

Meanwhile, the Magic have two of their last three games and will wrap up a short two-game road trip this evening. Orlando defeated the Miami Heat, 97-83, on Sunday at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Hedo Turkoglu netted 20 points in the win, while Dwight Howard scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Magic, who are in a three-way tie with New Jersey and Indiana for the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference.

Orlando is 11-23 away from Amway Arena this season.

Wednesday’s game between Orlando and Toronto is the third of four meetings this season. The Raptors are 2-0 so far in the series and have won four of five and six of the last eight meetings.

Toronto will visit Orlando on April 4.

Orlando has lost five straight and six of its last seven at Toronto.
