’Melo and Nuggets host Wizards

11.21.2003

Denver, CO (Basketball News) - The Washington Wizards will get their first look at rookie phenom Carmelo Anthony and the improved Nuggets tonight when they head to Denver for a game at the Pepsi Center.

The Wizards won their second straight game in front of their home crowd Wednesday with a 106-95 victory over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Gilbert Arenas scored 25 points and sank 4-of-8 three-point shots to spark the Wizards to the win over the Cavs.

Larry Hughes contributed 22 points and eight rebounds, while Etan Thomas netted a career-high 18 points and added 10 rebounds for Washington. Kwame Brown chipped in 15 points and 10 boards in the victory.

Washington’s Christian Laettner did not play against the Cavs. He missed his third straight game with a sore back.

Laettner is questionable for tonight’s contest.

The Wizards are 2-3 as the visitor this season.

The Nuggets used a balanced scoring attack to earn a 94-86 win over the Milwaukee Bucks in front of their home crowd on Wednesday evening.

Andre Miller had 17 points and eight assists to lead six Nuggets in double figures against Milwaukee. Anthony had 13 points and 11 rebounds, but shot only 2-of-11 from the field. Francisco Elson added 15 points to go along with eight assists, as the Nuggets won for the third time in four games.

Voshon Lenard added 14 points for Denver, while Earl Boykins and Jon Barry each netted 10.

With a win the Nuggets will be two games over .500 for the first time since 2001. The Nuggets have not been two games over since February 18, 2001 when they were 28-26.

Denver is 4-1 as the host.

In 2002-03, the teams split two contests as each club won on its homecourt.

Overall, Washington has won six of nine and seven of the last 11 meetings between the two squads.
