(Basketball News) - The Minnesota Timberwolves suffered another crushing loss on Wednesday, falling to the Sacramento Kings in overtime, 125-121, at the Target Center.
Kevin Garnett had 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who have lost two straight and three of their last four. Sam Cassell had 26 points and 14 assists before leaving in the extra session with a toe injury, while Latrell Sprewell scored 23 in the loss.
Garnett’s two free throws with 21 seconds left in the fourth gave the Timberwolves a 110-108 edge, but Mike Bibby’s jumper with 9.7 seconds to go in the period tied the score. Sprewell was then unable to get a shot off in the final seconds and the game went into overtime.
The Timberwolves trailed by three with 25 seconds left in overtime and Sprewell was fouled on a three-point attempt. Sprewell connected on 1-of-3 from the line and it got Minnesota within 123-121. Sprewell intentionally missed the third shot and the T’wolves had a chance to tie the game as Garnett and Mark Madsen each had a couple of tips, but neither one could put the ball through the bucket and Kings managed to hold on for the win.
Minnesota, which suffered its first home loss, resumes play Friday when it travels to Orlando to take on the Magic.
