Duncan, who was sidelined since the end of February with an irritation of the patellofemoral joint just above his left knee, was eligible to return on Tuesday.
San Antonio, however, had been 4-1 without Duncan, and decided to rest him an extra day and bring him back at home for the team’s Wednesday matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers.
On Tuesday, the Spurs fell to 4-2 without Duncan, dropping a 94-88 decision on the road to the Memphis Grizzlies.
In 54 games this season, Duncan is averaging 23.2 points and 13.0 rebounds per contest, both team-highs.
To make room for Duncan on the active roster, the Spurs placed guard Matt Carroll on the injured list with left patella tendinitis.
