Why Cleveland Cavaliers & Milwaukee Bucks Are Squeezing Restricted Free Agents Like Anderson Varejao, Sasha Pavlovic, & Charlie Bell

September 16 07

Right now, there’s one thing worse than the American mortgage industry: being a restricted free agent in the NBA.

Okay, that’s an exaggeration. But consider that Cleveland continues to squeeze Anderson Varejao and Sasha Pavlovic. And now negotiations between Charlie Bell and the Bucks have gotten so ugly that the combo guard refuses to re-sign with Milwaukee-under any circumstances.

"They told me they were going to take care of Mo Williams and that they would take care of me, but they haven’t," Bell said during a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "I’m either going to sign an offer sheet with another NBA team, or I’m going to accept a great deal to play in .

"I don’t want to go back to Milwaukee. I’m really disappointed in how this has turned out, but I don’t see any way I could play for the Bucks again because my heart just won’t be in it."

There are a couple of reasons why restricted free agents are having a tough time. First, the entire free agent market is slow. No player, with the exception of Rashard Lewis and Mo Williams, received a homerun contract this summer. This has trickled down to restricted free agency. Second, teams are realizing you don’t build through free agency. They’ve seen San Antonio and Detroit win NBA Titles by drafting well and swinging smart trades.

Varejao and Pavlovic are in a tough spot, while Bell, after working so hard to get his shot in the NBA, will likely return to Europe.

Bottom line: Milwaukee and Cleveland have leverage over their restricted free agents. And, without offers being tendered from other teams, they intend on using it and low-balling their players.

Will Vaerjao and Pavlovic re-sign with Cleveland? And will Bell return to Milwaukee? Get at us in the comment box below with your thoughts.

Cleveland sucks!! As much as i like Lebrons game I don’t see them making it to the finals again. Unless they make some major changes. They need to help Lebron out and get a consistent scorer on the perimeter. But then again i maybe wrong they are in the east. .

The KEY is the coach. If Mike Brown does not make instant corrections to the mistakes on the floor then we will not have a chance. I really don’t understand what he is thinking sometimes. There have been many times in the end of the 4th QTR that Gooden and Z are on the bench. Gooden, being one of our most consistant players (and a starter). We where not getting any rebounds in the last 6 mins of one playoff game, and all I keep saying to myself is "Why are our 2 best rebounders on the bench". INSTANT ADAPTATION is a must!!! .

Either way if those other CHUMPS that play with LeBron don’t step up and give your man some support soon don’t be crying when the King wants to leave his court because he is tired of playing with those other Court Gestures...Chalk another one up for the Silver and Black...Title #5! .

What the Cavs have that the Celtics don’t have is the "Fountain of Youth." With players like LeBron James, "Boobie" Gibson & Shannon Brown, who can only get better as they gain even more experience, the big three in Bo-town are more a joke than something to seriously worry about this season. The big three are a decade plus older than the "Fountain of Youth" here in Cleveland and NONE OF THEM have tasted the glory of being in the FINALS. Just because you put them together on one team, guarantees nothing. Let’s say they go the selfish route and put individual statistics before team chemistry, they ain’t going anywhere with that kind of attitude. I wouldn’t bank my money on Boston taking the East, just because they have the big three. To give up young talents like Al Jefferson, Gerald Green and Delonte West, you’re looking at a really, desperate organization as well as GM. Danny Ainge is doing the best he can to cover his own darn rear. Another disappointing season and he’s a goner. .

Yeah, we are ALL witnesses...Stop dreaming Cavbelievers the only reason they made to the Finals last year is because the East was so pathetic...what are the "Believers" going to do when the Celtics come into the playoff picture?...Silver and Black will again "STOMP A MUDHOLE" in another eastern conference CHUMP! .

It doesn’t matter if if the Cavs sign Paerjao or Vavlovic they will still be out coached IF they make to the Finals again to play the Silver and Black, and as for a "Bell" in Milwaukee... the only Bell that will matter will be the sound of the BUZZER as the game ends and the Bucks loose another... .

Sasha is a srong asset to the club. He will only get better. His potential is great. Athletic big guards are hard to come by. Andy is also an asset, but expendable. His lack of ability to score hurts the club. I would trade him for a piont guard. .
