Why Houston Rockets & Chicago Bulls Should Trade Tracy McGrady For Ben Wallace & Ben Gordon

January 11 08

My AM Take: Trade rumors are swirling around the Chicago Bulls like the wind at Wrigley Field. So the struggling franchise continues to talk with the Houston Rockets about acquiring Tracy McGrady.

Asked about a trade timetable on Dec. 21 — three days before he fired coach Scott Skiles — general manager John Paxson vowed to keep any discussions as quiet as possible. Still, some reports have Paxson talking to the Houston Rockets about a deal for seven-time All-Star Tracy McGrady. (Chicago Sun Times)

That’s right. Chicago and T-Mac. Here’s how this trade could breakdown:

 Chicago would get:

  • Tracy McGrady.

 Houston would get:

  • Ben Wallace and Ben Gordon.

Why Chicago should make this trade: The All-Star would add size to the Bulls’ backcourt and inject life in their anemic offense. He would also give the Bulls their first legitimate superstar since you-know-who pushed off on Utah’s Byron Russell in the NBA Finals.

Why Houston should make this trade: The Yao-T-Mac duo has failed. And teams typically build around centers, so the Rockets’ front office will continue shopping McGrady around the league. Wallace’s contract (he makes 15 million dollars per season) would have to be included in any trade. However, Gordon’s range would allow Houston to play inside-outside basketball with Yao.

Should Chicago and Houston pull the trigger on this trade? Get at us in the comment box below or hit us up in our fan forum.

if the rockets did this they wwould be stacked with about 5 or 6 power forwards, i would do this trade but i would think the bulls wouldnt , the bulls would suck even more, yao would be better with ben gordon, but thats like when all the laker fans said they were getting KG AND ARENAS in the offseason, its just not going to happen .

If they trade t-mac to Chicago it’s a worse thing they will do for T-mac. T-mac is a Houston Rocket forever even they will trade Kobe Bryant or Vince Carter or Allen Iverson or Dwyane Wade or any all-star players in the NBA, We don’t want to trade Tracy Mcgrady to any team. .

omg are you kidding me. bulls would get ripped off to the hill. i mean t-mac would barely play 2 more seasons. and gordon can pla another 12 and wallce 3-5. the houston should but in this deal and if bulls say no i would also put in francis as well.!!! .

While I’m not a huge fan of broke back T-Mac, I would do that trade in a heartbeat. That would leave plenty of assets to go after Gasol. .

Ship yao in the deal over his tenure in houston his career average in rebounds is under 10 he is 7’5 and cant hall in any other production besids barely scoring 25 a night his career average is under 25 ill take 20 a night and from gordon and 15 boards with 3 blocks and 2 steals a night from wallace, with his rebounding he creates more second chance opps. Wallace wasn’t a flop, just not the best leader he is a vet that belongs with a team of vets, thats why detriot worked out, chicago is young i mean the starting lineup is under 24 in average age. T-Mac is a vet thats what Wallace needs. Gordon is streaky but he can provide outside stability .

Better Idea, trade Yao for Wallace and Gordon. Bulls won’t take T-mac .

Oh my god I hate when people say MJ ’’pushed off,’’ oh yeah like Shaq never traveled in LA. If you remember Reggie threw MJ to bring the series back to Chicago and then started spinning like a little girl. Dude it’s the NBA do you think with 10 seconds left the game tied MJ with the ball to win his sixth title they are going to call a push off? Also it was the ’’last dance’’ that ref would have been killed. I don’t know if watch the NBA much but in the last 2 minutes they kinda let them play. T-Mac sucks. .

Where is this guy from Utah? Jordan didn’t push off. His hand went down, not towards Russell. Harmless. I think he ment since you know who crushed Utahs title hopes? Yeah thats more like it. As for Mcgrady I don’t know I would rather include Hinrich but then they would have two guys in the back court whom can’t play Defense. But hey atleast they will rid themselves of Big Ben. I think Big Ben would be better in Houston playing off of Yao. Of course trading for Mcgrady would only be a bandaide because if you look at T-Macs playoff record it’s hardly anything to get excited about. His injuries also have to be questioned. Maybe straight up for Wallace since he only plays 40 games a year. Thats an even trade. Your garbage for their garbage. I think the Bulls should blow it up and call Jerry West. .
