NBA Fines Michael Beasley $50,000

You’d think a guy whose character has come under so much scrutiny would make an effort to keep his nose clean at least through the end of rookie orientation. You’d think so.

Michael Beasley, however, gave his detractors yet more ammunition by participating in the incident for which fellow rookies Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur were fined $20K apiece, further incriminating himself by refusing to "cooperate with a league investigation of the matter". For that, the NBA punished him to the tune of $50,000.

Michael Beasley of the Miami Heat has been fined $50,000 for his involvement in an incident at the league’s Rookie Transition Program earlier this month, and for his initial failure to cooperate with a league investigation of the matter, the NBA announced today. Beasley was involved in the same incident for which Miami’s Mario Chalmers and Memphis’ Darrell Arthur were previously fined. - NBA.com

So, what exactly did Beasley do to elicit a fine so much larger than that of the other guilty parties? Was the extra $30,000 simply punishment for refusing to speak to the investigators or is there more to this story? Is this confirmation that Michael Beasley is the bad egg he’s portrayed to be or just the sort of slip you expect teenagers to make on occasion? Let us know what you think in the comment section.
