New York, NY (Basketball News) - NBA vice president Stu Jackson Wednesday handed out suspensions for four players involved in a fight during Monday’s preseason game between the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls.
Washington center Brendan Haywood received a three-game suspension, while both Antonio Davis and Eddy Curry of Chicago drew two-game penalties. The Wizards’ Larry Hughes was suspended for one game and Bulls’ guard Kirk Hinrich was given a $10,000 fine.
The fracas began when Hughes head-butted Hinrich with 3:22 remaining in the third quarter. Davis then came after Hughes but was met by Haywood, and the two began throwing punches at one another. Curry later jumped in and swung at Haywood before order was finally restored.
Haywood and Hughes will begin serving their suspensions when Washington opens its regular season November 3 at Memphis. Davis and Curry’s penalties begin during the Bulls’ season-opener against New Jersey on November 5.
