Suns visit Atlanta

01.27.2006

(Basketball News) - The Phoenix Suns play the third contest of a six-game road trip when they visit the Atlanta Hawks tonight at Philips Arena.

The Suns are 1-1 on the current trip and try to win their second straight game. On Thursday, Raja Bell scored 22 points to lead Phoenix to a 107-98 victory over the Miami Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Reigning MVP Steve Nash netted 21 and dished out 14 assists, while James Jones scored 20 off the bench for Phoenix, which avoided matching its season’s longest losing streak of three games.

Shawn Marion added 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Boris Diaw had 10 points and six boards in the win over Miami for the Suns, who were 13-of-24 from three-point range.

Phoenix, which will also visit Cleveland, Philadelphia and Boston on the current swing, is 11-8 on the road this season.

The Hawks, who play the finale of a season-long seven-game homestand, try and get back on the winning track tonight. On Wednesday, LeBron James scored 22 of his 38 points in the second half and the Cavaliers used a big fourth quarter to earn a 106-97 victory over Atlanta at Philips Arena.

Joe Johnson finished with 24 points and Al Harrington had 22 along with eight rebounds in the loss to Cleveland for the Hawks, who have lost three of four and seven of their last nine games overall.

Atlanta, which is 2-4 on its current homestand, is 8-13 as the host this season.

This is the second and final meeting of the season between the clubs. On December 4th, Marion and James Jones both netted 20 points, as Phoenix dismantled Atlanta, 112-94, at America West Arena.

Phoenix has won four straight and six of the last seven meetings in this series. The Suns have won three straight and five of their last six at the Hawks.
