Arenas paces Wizards past Bobcats

Antawn Jamison scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Wizards, who swept the Bobcats in a home-and-home series. Caron Butler tallied 18 points while Jared Jeffries added 14.

"We did some good things offensively and defensively tonight," said Jamison. "We just took care of business."

Jumaine Jones led the Bobcats with 25 points and eight rebounds. Bernard Robinson scored a career-high 21 points off the bench for Charlotte, which lost its third game in a row. Kareem Rush scored 15 points and Jake Voskuhl added 10 boards.

Washington scored the first 12 points of the game and did not trail the entire contest. Jamison scored nine in the first quarter and the Wizards held a 16- point advantage at the end of the first quarter, 27-11.

The Bobcats set a season-low for points in the first quarter, shooting an abysmal 14.8 percent from the field (4-for-27).

Charlotte, though, was able to respond in the second quarter. Led primarily by Robinson, Charlotte outscored Washington 31-23 to cut the deficit in half at the break, 50-42. Robinson scored 14 of his 21 points in the quarter.

In the second half, the Bobcats could not mount a comeback as Washington repeatedly had an answer for Charlotte.

The Bobcats got to within four, 50-46, less than a minute into the third, but Washington rolled off an 11-2 run soon after to take a 14 point lead, 64-50, with 7:37 left to play. Arenas’ jump shot capped the scoring for the Wizards.

Charlotte then was within six, 82-76, early in the fourth quarter before the Wizards went on a 7-0 run that pushed the lead up to 13, 89-76, with 8:44 left to play. Arenas’ trey capped the scoring spurt.

An Alan Anderson three pointer brought Charlotte back within six with 1:48 left, but Butler connected on two free throws to ice the game.

The Wizards shot 47 percent from the field, while the Bobcats shot 40 percent.

Anderson finished with seven points in just under six minutes of action for the Bobcats...Washington won despite turning the ball over 21 times. Charlotte committed 11 turnovers...Antonio Daniels scored 13 points and dished out five assists off the bench for the Wizards...Washington dominated the boards, outrebounding Charlotte 55-33.
