Atlanta Hawks Team Report - January 28 01.28.2004
|
(Basketball News) - The Atlanta Hawks fell to the Phoenix Suns, 89-85, on Tuesday at Philips Arena.
Stephen Jackson had 19 points and Shareef Abdur-Rahim contributed 16 points and 13 boards for the Hawks, who have dropped two of their last three games. Theo Ratliff added 16 points and 12 rebounds for Atlanta, which remained the only team in the NBA that has not won at least two straight games this season.
Atlanta held a 45-34 rebounding edge, but turned the ball over 23 times in the contest. The Hawks failed to score at least 100 points for the 21st straight game.
The Hawks and Suns split the season-series after the Atlanta won 99-94 in Phoenix earlier this year.
Earlier in the day on Tuesday, Jim O’Brien resigned as head coach of the Boston Celtics, making Atlanta head coach Terry Stotts the longest tenured head man in the Eastern Conference. O’Brien had been with his team the longest for just one day after Byron Scott was fired by the Nets on Monday.
Abdur-Rahim has scored in double digits in nine straight games. He is averaging 8.3 rebounds in Atlanta’s last four games.
The Hawks are off until Thursday when they host the Portland Trail Blazers.
