(Basketball News) - The Atlanta Hawks continued their tough start to the new season, losing, 106-97, to the Washington Wizards on Monday in front of their home crowd at Philips Arena.
Jason Terry paced the Hawks with 25 points. Shareef Abdur-Rahim added 20 points and 10 rebounds for Atlanta, which has dropped three of four and are 3-8 overall this season.
Dion Glover added 13 points and Theo Ratliff pulled down 11 boards to go along with six blocks for the Hawks, who held a 78-76 lead early in the fourth quarter. But the Wizards blew open a tight game by going on a 19-4 run for their largest lead of the game.
Larry Hughes capped the flurry with three-point play at 3:01, handing Washington a 95-82 advantage. The lead hovered around double digits until Abdur-Rahim’s three-pointer capped an 8-1 spurt and pulled the Hawks within 100-95 with around 30 seconds remaining.
However, the Wizards were 6-for-8 from the line down the stretch to ice the victory, their second in five road games this season. With the loss, Atlanta fell to just 1-3 at Philips.
The Hawks play tonight in Milwaukee against the Bucks.
