Ayers and Sterner added to Orlando coaching staff

06.10.2005

Orlando, FL (Basketball News) - The Orlando Magic hired Randy Ayers along with Tom Sterner as assistant coaches on Friday. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Ayers, who served under Larry Brown in Philadelphia for six-plus seasons, helped guide the 76ers to five straight playoff appearances. He also had a brief stint as head coach at the start of 2003-04 campaign, compiling a 21-31 record before Chris Ford took over the coaching duties.

Prior to coming back to Orlando, Sterner was a top assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors from 2002-04. He originally joined the Magic in June of 1989 as an assistant coach, spending nine seasons at that post (1994-2002).

"Randy (Ayers) and Tom (Sterner) are two of the hardest working coaches in the business," said head Hill. "They are known for their attention to detail, the way they prepare for a game and for helping players reach their full potential. We are very excited to have them as part of the Magic family."

Sterner will be reunited with current head coach Brian Hill, who was hired as the club’s new head coach on May 24. Hill, an assistant with the New Jersey Nets the last two seasons, along with Sterner took the Magic to their only NBA Finals appearance in 1995.
