Normal, IL (Basketball News) - Vince Greene scored 23 points as the Illinois State Redbirds defeated the Drake Bulldogs, 73-68, in a Missouri Valley Conference showdown at Redbird Arena.
Trey Guidry netted 20 points, while Neil Plank chipped in 11 points for the Redbirds (9-18, 4-14 MVC).
Lonnie Randolph led the way for the Bulldogs (12-15, 7-11) with 16 points and Chaun Brooks added 12 points in the losing effort.
Drake opened the contest with a 19-7 run and never looked back as it took a 39-30 lead into the intermission.
The Redbirds outscored Drake 43-29 in the second half to come away with the five-point victory.
Illinois State shot 54.2 percent from the field in the contest, while Drake shot 50 percent.
The Redbirds snapped a two-game losing skid while the Bulldogs lost for the second time in their last three outings.
Greene made all eight of his free throws in the game and broke a 48-year-old Redbird record when he hit his 36th-straight free throw in the second half.
