01.19.2005

Fairfax, VA (Basketball News) - Dominick Mejia tied a career-high with 23 points, hitting 5-of-7 from three-point range, in leading the Drexel Dragons to a 66-59 win over George Mason in Colonial Athletic Conference play from the Patriot Center.

Phil Goss added 10 points for the Dragons (8-6, 4-2 CAA), while Chaz Crawford pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds, scored eight points and posted four blocks in the fourth straight win for Drexel.

The Patriots (7-8, 2-4) were led by Jai Lewis who recorded a game and career- high 31 points and cleared 13 rebounds in the third straight setback for the program. Tony Skinn added 11 points and seven boards, although he shot just 4- of-19 from the field and 1-of-9 beyond the arc on the night.

The Dragons made just 34.4 percent of their field goal attempts in the first half, including 4-of-13 beyond the arc, and yet they trailed by just two points at the break, 30-28.

In the second half it was George Mason’s turn to struggle from the floor at 32.1 percent, converting a mere 1-of-12 behind the three-point line, in allowing the visitors to take away a seven-point decision.

Drexel finished the contest shooting just 39.7 percent from the field, but that was still better than the 36.2 percent produced by the Patriots, who made a meager 3-of-21 attempts on the perimeter.

The victory for the Dragons marked their first ever road triumph at the Patriot Center.
