Villanova, PA (Basketball News) - Allan Ray made a school-record eight three- point field goals and finished with 26 points as fourth-ranked Villanova cruised to an 84-47 victory over Lehigh at the Pavilion.
Randy Foye added 21 points and Mike Nardi had 14 for the Wildcats (2-0), who hadn’t taken the court since a season-opening win over Stony Brook on November 18 but didn’t show any rust.
Villanova set a team single-game record with 17 three-pointers in 33 attempts, with Ray ending 8-of-16 from beyond the arc. Foye was 5-of-8 from long distance while Nardi buried four of his six shots from three-point range.
Jose Olivero compiled 15 points, the lone Lehigh player in double figures. The Mountain Hawks (2-4), who also beat Stony Brook in their last outing, shot just 35 percent from the field.
The Wildcats embarked on an early 10-2 run, capped by threes by Foye and Ray, to take a 16-5 lead seven minutes into the contest. Foye buried back-to-back triples later on to spark a 11-2 burst which extended the margin to 18 points. A three-point play by Kyle Lowry ended the spurt and gave Villanova a 30-12 advantage with eight minutes to go in the half.
Lowry compiled 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the night.
The margin reached 20 points at 40-20 when Nardi sank a three-pointer with 4:28 remaining before intermission, and the Wildcats were up by as many as 24 before settling on a 47-25 lead at the break.
Ray hit his record-setting three with 6:37 left to play. The bucket ended a 13-0 run and put Villanova up 80-36.
