Coral Gables, FL (Basketball News) - Zabian Dowdell poured in a game-high 23 points to lead the Virginia Tech Hokies to a 73-63 victory over the Miami- Florida Hurricanes in Atlantic Coast Conference action from the Convocation Center.
Carlos Dixon added 17 points for VaTech (12-7, 5-3 ACC), while Deron Washington had 14 points and seven boards. Jamon Gordon was the fourth Hokie to register in double-figures, scoring 11 points.
Robert Hite paced the Hurricanes (13-7, 4-5) in defeat with 17 points. Guillermo Diaz added 15 points in the losing effort, while Anthony King had 12 points and eight boards.
The Hurricanes held the lead for most of the first half of play, but took just a 30-29 advantage into the break.
VaTech went on a 6-0 run midway through the second stanza, helping it come away with the 10-point win.
The Hokies connected on 50 percent of their shots from the floor and 40.9 percent from behind the arc.
