Richmond, VA (Basketball News) - Domonic Jones scored a game-high 21 points in leading the Virginia Commonwealth Rams to a 72-67 victory over the Kentucky Hilltoppers in non-conference action from the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
Jones finished the game 8-of-16 from the floor with five rebounds. Michael Doles added 18 points for the Rams (2-0), while Nick George chipped in 10 points coming off the bench.
Nigel Dixon paced the Hilltoppers (0-2) in defeat with 18 points and seven rebounds. Anthony Winchester nearly missed a double-double with 15 points and nine boards, while Todor Pandov added 17 points and seven rebounds in the losing cause.
Western Kentucky knocked down a solid 50.0 percent from the floor in the first half, opening up a four-point lead at the break.
In the second stanza, VCU converted 15-of-22 free throws on its way to a five- point come from behind victory.
The Hilltoppers held a 42-35 rebounding edge, while the Rams owned a 21-12 advantage in free-throw points.
