Memphis, TN (Basketball News) - Mike Miller tied a season-high with 22 points and dished out five assists to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to their sixth straight win, 103-90, over the Atlanta Hawks at the Pyramid.
Earl Watson, filling in again for the injured Jason Williams, scored a season- high 20 points to go along with nine assists and six rebounds. Pau Gasol collected 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who matched a franchise-best for consecutive wins the team set last season.
Jason Terry scored 19 points and handed out five assists and Shareef Abdur- Rahim finished with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, as the Hawks fell for the fifth time in six games.
Memphis, which tied a season-high with 12 blocks, scored a season- best 62 points in the second half, are now four games above .500 for the first time in franchise history.
Trailing 63-62 with just over two minutes to go in the third period, Memphis began to make its move. Miller drilled back-to-back three-pointers, followed by a pair of Swift free throws, to close out the quarter on an 8-0 run and take a 70-63 lead into the final stanza.
The Grizzlies’ lead reached 14 points at 82-68 on a Bo Outlaw tip-in midway through the fourth quarter, and the Hawks wouldn’t get the lead below nine points the rest of the way.
Miller hit a layup with just eight seconds left in the first quarter, but Atlanta was more impressive in the opening stanza, leading 23-16 after the first 12 minutes.
Memphis couldn’t make any headway in the second quarter, either, never getting closer than within five points. When Bonzi Wells hit a reverse layup with one second to go in the half, it cut the Hawks lead to 47-41.
After the first 24 minutes, Dion Glover paced Atlanta with 10 points and Gasol and Watson matched him with 10 apiece for Memphis.
The Grizzlies chipped away at the Atlanta lead in the third quarter until Miller’s layup with 6:50 remaining made 54-54, setting up the run late in the third.
