NBA Game Summary - Cleveland at Detroit

 

Detroit, MI (Basketball News) - Chauncey Billups netted 21 points and handed out eight assists as the Pistons continue to roll in Detroit, downing the Cleveland Cavaliers, 90-78, at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

The Pistons have now won 12 straight games at home.

Richard Hamilton displayed a nice all-around game, scoring 18 points, pulling down six boards and dishing out seven assists for the Pistons, who won their fifth straight game overall.

Ben Wallace added 11 points, 19 rebounds and five blocks in the win.

Cleveland, meanwhile, turned the ball over 20 times en route to losing its third game in a row. LeBron James paced the Cavaliers with 22 points, nine boards and seven assists.

Ronald Murray added 17 points off the bench, while Zydrunas Ilgauskas tallied 15 points and nine rebounds.

Detroit set the tempo early, using four straight points by Hamilton to go ahead 16-10 with 4:27 left in the first. The Pistons then wrapped up the opening frame on a 7-2 run to hold a comfortable 25-17 edge.

Detroit added to its lead in the second and led by 11, 44-33, at halftime.

A Billups jumper gave the Pistons a 34-22 lead with 8:08 remaining in the second period. Detroit kept a double-digit lead until a James layup pulled Cleveland to within 36-27 with 5:40 left.

A Rasheed Wallace jumper then sparked an 8-1 run that staked the Pistons to a 44-28 lead with 2:30 remaining. The Cavaliers netted the last five points of the frame.

After the two teams traded baskets to start the third Detroit netted seven straight, the last four by Billups, to extend its lead to 53-35 with 8:46 remaining.

The Pistons remained comfortably ahead through the frame, holding a 61-46 edge with just over four minutes remaining after a Ben Wallace dunk. Detroit led 67-52 after the third.

Cleveland never threatened in the final frame as the Pistons led by as many as 21 to continue their homecourt dominance.

Cleveland shot just 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the free throw line. Detroit connected on 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the charity stripe...Rasheed Wallace finished with 15 points and five rebounds...Detroit shot 45 percent from the floor to Cleveland’s 43.1 percent...The Pistons turned the ball over 12 times.
