NBA Game Summary - Golden State at Chicago

11.10.2005

Chicago, IL (Basketball News) - Kirk Hinrich scored a game-high 23 points and Mike Sweetney hit a pair of pivotal free throws with 6.3 seconds left for Chicago, which beat Golden State, 85-84, in a nail-biter at the United Center.

Sweetney finished with nine points and nine rebounds off the bench for the Bulls, who snapped a two-game skid. Ben Gordon chipped in 12 points and Tyson Chandler had six points and nine boards, as the Bulls won despite 26 turnovers.

"We just somehow hung around," Hinrich said. "We did enough to stay in the game, and made some plays down the stretch for once."

Baron Davis scored 17 points and dished out five assists for Golden State, which had a two-game win streak snapped. Jason Richardson and Derek Fisher each contributed 15 points.

Chicago erased a 49-39 halftime deficit and overtook the lead with 11:25 remaining in the third on a jumper by Jannero Pargo. The game would remain close the rest of the way to set up a wild finish.

Gordon was fouled behind the arc while shooting with 1:43 left in the game, and hit all three free throws to put Chicago ahead 80-78. Fisher then nailed a three-pointer to put Golden State up by a point, only to see Andres Nocioni come down the other end and answer with a three-ball to make it 83-81 Chicago with 1:08 remaining.

Mike Dunleavy would sink a three-pointer of his own with 11.3 seconds remaining to put the Warriors back on top by one.

On the Bulls’ last possession of the game, though, Sweetney was fouled on his way to the basket and converted two free throws to give Chicago the edge.

The Warriors came back down the court and Richardson found his way into the paint for a close-range shot, but it fell off the rim to give Chicago the win.

"We’re starting to mature," Sweetney said. "Me and a couple other new guys are starting to get used to the system and playing with each other."

The Warriors finished the first quarter on a 13-6 run to assume a 28-20 lead after 12 minutes of play.

Golden State stretched that advantage to double digits in the second on an old-fashioned three-point play by Troy Murphy, and Davis nailed a jumper with 27 seconds remaining in the half to maintain the 10-point lead heading into the locker room.

The Bulls have won five in a row at home versus Golden State...The Bulls are 2-1 at home this season...Richardson tweaked his ankle early in the game but returned and did not appear to struggle the rest of the way...The home team has won the last nine contests in this series.
