11.6.2005 - Updated on 11.7.2005

New York, NY (Basketball News) - Jason Richardson had 24 points and five rebounds to guide the Golden State Warriors over the New York Knicks, 83-81, at Madison Square Garden.

Troy Murphy netted 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and Baron Davis had 16 points, nine assists and six rebounds for the Warriors, who have won two out of three to start the season.

"Its the first road win of the season and when you play at the Garden you always want to win, its the basketball Mecca of the world," said Richardson "Maybe we can build off of the win today and take the next two on the road."

Stephon Marbury had 15 points and six assists and David Lee, playing in his first game, had eight points and 10 rebounds off the bench for the Knicks, who have lost three straight to start the season and have yet to win a game under new head coach Larry Brown.

"We definitely make our mistakes, but we try to do it playing the hardest we can," said Lee. "Usually that will cover up alot of our mistakes. I think were going to come together."

Both teams started the first quarter shooting poorly. The Knicks missed six of their first seven shots and Golden State held a 24-20 lead after 12 minutes.

The Warriors increased their lead to 46-39 by the end of the first half thanks to Davis, who scored nine points in the second quarter. The Knicks also helped out with 11 turnovers.

New York went on a 12-2 run early in the third quarter to draw within 53-52 with 5:12 left, but the Knicks couldn’t manage to take the lead and Golden State went into the fourth with a 67-65 edge.

New York scored the first seven points of the last quarter to take a 72-67 lead.

The Knicks, however, missed 10 of their next 11 shots and the Warriors were able to go on an 11-2 run to take the lead for good. Richardson drained a three-pointer to give the Warriors the lead back with 3:40 to play.

The Knicks almost came back, thanks to the Warriors missing several free throws down the stretch. Quentin Richardson hit a jump shot to make it 83-78 with nine seconds left. After Murphy missed two free throws Quentin Richardson drained a three-pointer, but there was only half a second left on the clock and the Knicks were unable to foul the Warriors, who escaped with a two point victory.
