NBA Game Summary - LA Lakers at Golden State

04.19.2005

Oakland, CA (Basketball News) - Mickael Pietrus scored 25 points and Baron Davis had 24 with 13 assists, leading the Golden State Warriors to a 126-99 rout of the Los Angeles Lakers at The Arena.

Troy Murphy added 19 points and nine rebounds for Golden State, which has won 13 of its last 17 games. Jason Richardson scored 17 in the win.

"The teams that aren’t going to the playoffs, by and large, have been struggling. We’ve been fortunate in that our guys have stayed pretty motivated," said Warriors head coach Mike Montgomery.

The Warriors will wrap up their season at home against Utah on Wednesday. They are 2-0 on a season-ending three-game homestand.

Kobe Bryant scored 22 points to lead the reeling Lakers, who have lost five straight and 18 of their last 20 games.

LA’s woes were personified by a play in the third quarter when Bryant attempted to bounce the ball to himself off the backboard for a dunk. He missed, and what was a three-point game at 72-69 quickly turned into a rout.

"It was ugly," Bryant acknowledged.

Golden State went on to outscore the Lakers 54-30 the rest of the way, at one point leading by as many as 40 points.

The Warriors closed the third quarter with a 26-8 run, turning a 72-69 lead into a 98-77 cushion. They ended the game shooting 52 percent to LA’s 37 percent.

The Lakers, who will wrap up their season at Portland on Wednesday, got 19 points off the bench from Brian Cook and 18 points and 11 assists from Jumaine Jones.

Davis scored 14 of his 24 points in the first half, and Golden State led by as many as 14 points on the way to a 62-51 advantage at the break.

The Warriors used a 20-5 run, keyed by five points from Pietrus, to take a 44-30 lead early in the second quarter. LA would get no closer than six before halftime.

Lakers forward Caron Butler missed the game to be with his daughter, who had an asthma attack...The Warriors won for the first time in four games against the Lakers this season...Golden State center Adonal Foyle collected a game- high 13 rebounds.
