NBA Game Summary - LA Lakers at Memphis

Memphis, TN (Basketball News) - Pau Gasol had 20 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Memphis Grizzlies over the Los Angeles Lakers, 85-73, at the FedEx Forum.

Eddie Jones added 16 points for the Grizzlies, who have won two in a row since suffering their worst loss of the season, 89-70, in Cleveland on Friday night. Mike Miller tallied 13 points and Shane Battier finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds to help Memphis win its fourth straight contest against the Lakers.

Kobe Bryant led Los Angeles with 18 points. Chris Mihm added 11 points and 10 boards for the Lakers, who have dropped three straight to fall below the .500 mark (3-4) for the first time this season.

The Grizzlies led 22-21 and then began to build themselves a lead early in the second. Ahead 28-27, Bobby Jackson and Jones sparked a 10-3 burst that gave Memphis a 38-29 cushion. Jones tallied four points and Jackson scored five during the run, ending it with a bucket with a little less than four minutes remaining in the half.

Then, after taking a 42-33 lead into the break, the Grizzlies put the game well out of reach in the third. Still leading by nine points, 44-35, Lorenzen Wright began a 9-3 spurt with a free throw and Gasol ended it with a basket for a 53-38 edge five minutes into the stanza.

Later, ahead 55-43 Memphis put stretched its advantage by ending the quarter with an 18-4 run. Battier started the surge with a three-pointer and Miller scored eight of the 18 points for Memphis, which carried a 73-47 cushion into the final 12 minutes.

In the fourth, the Lakers only got as close as the final score.

Wright finished with seven points and 12 boards.

Miller needed to be helped off the floor late in the fourth quarter after knocking knees with the Lakers’ Andrew Bynum, who also needed to leave the game and had ice on his left knee on the bench...Smush Parker, Kwame Brown, Lamar Odom and Sasha Vujacic all had seven points apiece for the Lakers...LA shot only 32.5 percent for the game...Memphis hit 37.8 percent of its shots.
