Portland, OR (Basketball News) - Travis Outlaw had a career-high 20 points and Ruben Patterson added 18 to lead the Portland Trail Blazers over the Los Angeles Lakers, 106-103, in a battle of two lottery-bound clubs at the Rose Garden.
Sebastian Telfair recorded 17 points and 11 assists for the Blazers, who ended the season winning only three of their final 14 games. Ha Seung-Jin added a career-high 13 points for Portland, which finished with a 27-55 mark.
Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 37 points, but without Shaquille O’Neal he could only help Los Angeles to a 34-48 record this season.
Chucky Atkins had 23 points and seven assists for the Lakers, who end the year losing six straight.
Los Angeles held a 101-100 lead with 3:23 remaining, but Patterson hit a pair of free throws to give the Blazers the lead for good 21 seconds later.
Bryant had a chance to tie the game with a three-pointer with 56 seconds remaining. However, he missed and later committed a costly turnover with three seconds left to seal his club’s fate.
Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 11 points for the Blazers, who ended the season 18-23 at home.
Devean George had 15 points and Chris Mihm had 12 points for the Lakers, who went only 12-29 away from their home court.
