NBA Game Summary - Miami at Dallas

Dallas, TX (Basketball News) - Jerry Stackhouse scored 24 points off the bench, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and sparked a late Dallas run as the Mavericks rallied for a 109-104 victory over Miami at the AmericanAirlines Center.

Dirk Nowitzki finished with 19 points for Dallas, which trailed 97-91 with under five minutes left before putting together a 14-1 spurt to pull out the win. Jason Terry had 18 points and eight assists while Erick Dampier racked up 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Mavericks, who had lost two of three coming in.

Dwyane Wade compiled 29 points and eight assists for the Heat, whose late collapse sent its three-game win streak to a halt. Shaquille O’Neal contributed 25 points and 13 rebounds while reserve Rasual Butler poured in 20 points in 28 minutes.

Miami fought back from an 87-78 deficit after three quarters and opened up a 97-91 lead when Butler drained a three-pointer with 4:33 to play. However, the Heat would not make another field goal until the final minute and Dallas took over.

A turnaround jumper by Stackhouse with 2:17 left put the Mavs ahead 99-98 and Josh Howard tipped in Stackhouse’s miss 37 seconds later for a three-point edge.

Miami continued to miss shots and Dallas sealed the win when Stackhouse and Nowitzki each sank a pair of free throws heading into the final minute.

The Heat scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter and tied the game at 87-87 on a three-point play from Wade with eight minutes left. A Notwitzki jumper on the other end sent the Mavericks back in front, but Keyon Dooling sank a three-pointer and Udonis Haslem and O’Neal followed with layups to stake the visitors to a 94-89 lead with 5:07 to go.

The Heat held a slim 12-11 lead before reeling off 10 straight points over a 1 1/2 minute span in the first quarter. O’Neal began the run with a three-point play and ended it with a thunderous jam which gave Miami a 22-11 advantage with 5:20 left in the period.

Dallas countered with an 11-2 flurry, capped by back-to-back baskets by Stackhouse, to cut its deficit to two and the teams each added a field goal before the quarter ended with Miami on top 26-24.

The Mavericks would score nine straight points to begin the second quarter and took its biggest lead of the half, 33-26, when Devin Harris hit a three- pointer at the 9:26 mark. The Heat responded with a 14-4 spurt, which started and finished with triples by Jones, to go up 40-37 with 5:48 remaining before intermission.

Miami opened up a 46-39 advantage late in the first half before an 11-2 Dallas run gave the hosts a two-point cushion with under a minute left. Butler then hit a trey and Wade scored at the buzzer to send the Heat into the locker room with a 53-50 lead.

Dallas put up 37 third-quarter points and had a nine-point advantage heading into the final 12 minutes.

Dallas has won five of the last six in the series but Miami has taken 18 of the most recent 26 meetings between the clubs, including eight of the last 12 in Dallas...The Mavericks improved to 14-4 against the Eastern Conference, while the Heat dropped to 10-10 versus the West.
