Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - Corey Maggette scored 34 points on 10-of-15 shooting, and the Los Angeles Clippers led wire-to-wire for a 116-108 victory over Milwaukee at the Staples Center.
Elton Brand added 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Clippers, who have won two straight on the heels of a two-game slide. Bobby Simmons scored 16 points in 21 minutes off the bench, and Shaun Livingston collected 11 assists and two points in his first NBA start.
Michael Redd scored 31 points to lead the Bucks, who have dropped three straight overall and five in a row against the Clippers in LA. Toni Kukoc added 16 points in the loss, and Dan Gadzuric scored 15 with 11 rebounds.
Maggette poured in 17 points in the first half, and the Clippers shot 62 percent on the way to a 66-49 lead at halftime.
LA used a 17-4 run in the first quarter to take control of the game, turning a 13-7 lead into a 30-11 cushion with two minutes remaining in the period.
Chris Kaman scored six of his 11 first-half points during the surge, and the Clippers carried a 34-17 lead into the second quarter.
LA led by as many as 26 points before halftime, and Milwaukee was never closer than 11 points in the third quarter.
But the Bucks pulled within six points twice in the fourth quarter, the last time coming when Gadzuric’s bucket made it 106-100 with two minutes remaining.
Maggette responded with a three-pointer at the other end to extend the Clippers lead to nine, and the win was never again in doubt. Maggette ended 4- for-5 on three-pointers.
