Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - Allen Iverson continued to torch Milwaukee, scoring a game-high 39 points en route to a personal milestone as Philadelphia clinched a playoff berth with a 122-106 victory over the Bucks at the Wachovia Center.
Iverson added 12 assists and seven rebounds for the Sixers, whose playoff seed has not been determined. They are 1 1/2 games in front of idle New Jersey and Cleveland. Meanwhile, Philly trails Indiana, which lost to Orlando Monday, by one game for the sixth seed.
If the Pacers lose against Chicago on Wednesday and the Sixers beat Atlanta, Philadelphia will be the sixth seed.
With the 39 points, Iverson passed Charles Barkley (2,264 in 1987-88) for the second-best, single-season total in Sixers’ history. Wilt Chamberlain’s 2,649 points in 1965-66 is the franchise’s record.
Iverson has also lit up the Bucks this season, scoring 40, 54, 48 and 39 points against Milwaukee — an average of 45 points per game.
Kyle Korver netted 19 points, while Chris Webber contributed 18 points, eight boards and six assists for the Sixers, who have won seven of their last nine games. Andre Iguodala had 15 points, six assists and five rebounds in the win.
Leading Milwaukee, which has been out of playoff contention for some time now and played without All-Star guard and leading-scorer Michael Redd due to left Achilles tendinitis, was Desmond Mason with 22 points.
Dan Gadzuric scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds for the Bucks, who have one win in their last six games.
Iverson was hot early, scoring 10 points in less than four minutes and finishing the first quarter with 16 as the Sixers led, 36-29, heading into the second period.
Philadelphia stretched its lead to double figures early in the second quarter and used a 13-2 run to pull in front 61-40 before cruising into halftime with a 70-50 advantage.
Iverson had 26 points, eight assists and five rebounds at the break as the Sixers shot 58 percent from the field. The 70 first half points represented a season-high for Philly.
The Sixers held a double-digit cushion throughout the third quarter, which ended with Philadelphia ahead, 94-75.
Milwaukee did not muster a serious comeback threat in the fourth quarter.
