Milwaukee, WI (Basketball News) - Michael Redd scored a team-high 19 points as the Milwaukee Bucks ended several losing streaks with a 91-86 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Bradley Center.
Redd went 8-of-21 from the field for Milwaukee, which snapped a three-game losing streak.
In addition, the Bucks halted a 10-game losing streak dating back to March 28, 1999 against Minnesota. The victory was also Milwaukee’s first against the T- Wolves at home since February 8, 1995.
Joe Smith had 17 points and 12 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season while Mike James and Erick Strickland chipped in 10 points off the bench in the victory.
Leading the T-Wolves, who have dropped two straight after having a five-game winning streak snapped on Sunday, was Latrell Sprewell, who packed 19 of his 24 points into the first half.
Kevin Garnett had 15 points and 13 rebounds for his NBA-leading 40th double- double of the season, while Wally Szczerbiak contributed 19 points for Minnesota, which has won seven of 10 overall.
For Minnesota, the tale of the game could be told in the shooting disparity.
After shooting 53 percent in the first half for 56 points, Minnesota connected on just 11-of-40 from the field (28 percent) and 30 points in the second half.
Minnesota raced to a 29-21 lead after the first quarter before outscoring Milwaukee by one point in the second quarter to take a 56-47 advantage into intermission.
The key stat of the first half was three-point shooting as Minnesota went 5- of-9 from behind the arc while the Bucks did not connect from three-point distance, giving the T’Wolves a 15-0 advantage in that department.
Milwaukee came out of the locker room energized and playing fierce defense. The Bucks used a 14-5 burst to tie the game, 61-61, with about five minutes left in the third quarter. Following back-to-back dunks by Redd, the Bucks took the lead 69-67 — Milwaukee’s first since 8-6 in the first quarter.
Minnesota scored just 11 points in the frame and trailed 70-67 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bucks led throughout the fourth quarter before a Garnett bank shot cut the lead to 86-84. Smith stretched Milwaukee’s lead to four with a pair of free throws.
Szczerbiak then hit two from the charity stripe and Strickland matched with two for the Bucks. On the ensuing possession both Sprewell and Sam Cassell missed three-pointers and Toni Kukoc set the final score with a free throw.
