NBA Game Summary - New Jersey at Dallas

01.15.2006

Dallas, TX (Basketball News) - Keith Van Horn scored 21 of his 23 points in the first half, burning his former team, as the Mavericks ran past the New Jersey Nets, 110-77, at American Airlines Center.

Josh Howard led the way with 29 points and Dirk Nowitzki tallied 16 points for Dallas, which has won four of its last five games. Every player in the game scored for Dallas, which shot 52.6 percent from the field, including 8-of-15 from three-point range.

"I felt in great rhythm tonight," Van Horn said. "Once I hit a couple, my teammates really looked for me. I just let my shot go. You start to forget about everything and that’s what I did tonight."

Dallas has beaten New Jersey 11 straight times.

Jason Kidd ended with 19 points and Vince Carter scored 17 for New Jersey, which tied a season-high with its third consecutive defeat following a 10-game win streak. Kidd also had seven of New Jersey’s 25 turnovers, which led to 36 Dallas points.

"I think turnovers were key, on top of them getting points off our turnovers," Carter said. "That was the big thing."

Van Horn, who played his first five NBA seasons for the Nets, made all five of his three-point attempts in the opening half, helping the Mavericks build a 67-44 cushion at the intermission.

A 9-2 Dallas run pushed its lead to 28-15. Howard had six of those points, as the Mavs were on top 32-19 after 12 minutes.

The Mavericks scored nine in a row to open the second quarter, capped by a pair of Van Horn three-pointers. Two free throws from Van Horn extended the advantage to 55-29 with 5:33 left in the half.

Dallas was on top by as many as 38 points, as a Howard free throw made the score 93-55 with 1:12 left in the third.

Jason Terry added 13 points for Dallas, while Nenad Krstic scored 10 for New Jersey.

New Jersey shot 41.4 percent from the field...Van Horn missed one of his six three-point shots.
