Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - Vince Carter scored 26 of his 32 points in the second half, as the New Jersey Nets defeated the Philadelphia 76ers, 99-93, at the Wachovia Center.
Carter also had eight rebounds and seven assists. Clifford Robinson finished with 18 points and Jason Kidd contributed 15 points and six assists for New Jersey, which has won three in a row. Travis Best chipped in 14 points in the win.
Allen Iverson paced Philadelphia with 37 points, including 28 in the second half. Marc Jackson netted 14 points and Kyle Korver added 13 points and seven boards for the 76ers, who have dropped four of their last five contests. Chris Webber managed just 10 points on 4-of-18 shooting in the loss.
In the third quarter, Andre Iguodala’s jumper with 8:14 left staked Philadelphia to a 51-42 advantage.
The Nets then countered with a 26-10 burst to move in front 68-61 with 1:19 remaining in the stanza. Carter drained three shots from beyond the arc and Kidd a pair of three-pointers during the surge.
New Jersey eventually held a 68-64 lead after 36 minutes.
The Nets maintained the advantage in the fourth quarter and Carter’s three- pointer with 2:15 left made it 88-82.
Iverson then answered with a three-point shot to pull Philadelphia within three, but Carter converted 3-of-4 free throws and Robinson added a pair from the stripe to give New Jersey a 93-85 cushion with just 44.4 seconds remaining.
The 76ers did not threaten again.
Korver scored the first eight points of the game for Philadelphia, which jumped to an 8-2 lead.
The Nets then scored the next six points to tie the game and the rest of the opening quarter stayed tight. The 76ers led 19-15 after 12 minutes.
Philadelphia was able to extend its advantage to six in the second quarter, as two free throws by Webber with 4:07 left in the period made it 35-29.
After New Jersey pulled within 37-36, Jackson converted a pair of foul shots and then added a jumper to give the 76ers a five-point lead heading to the intermission.
