Charlotte, NC (Basketball News) - Gerald Wallace poured in a game-high 27 points to lead Charlotte to a 108-102 victory over Orlando, as the Bobcats handed the Magic their franchise-record 16th consecutive road loss.
Primoz Brezec added 22 points for the Bobcats, who snapped a a four-game skid. Bernard Robinson chipped in with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Raymond Felton had 16 points and 13 assists. Jumaine Jones tallied 13 points in the win.
Hedo Turkoglu had 24 points and nine assists for Orlando, which lost for the 17th time in its past 22 outings. Jameer Nelson netted 19 points and dished off eight assists while Dwight Howard contributed 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Orlando surpassed its 15 straight road defeats, set November 24 - January 24, 1990.
The Magic expended a lot of energy climbing back into the game. After falling behind by as many as 20 points, Orlando got back to within four as the final frame got underway.
Nelson’s trey, a little over two minutes into the quarter, made the score 85-82, but that’s as close as the Magic could make it until the waning moments.
Wallace and Jake Voskuhl connected on back-to back buckets to give the Bobcats back some breathing room, 89-82, with under nine minutes to go.
Charlotte continued to hold Orlando at arm’s length, but the Magic made one last run at the lead. Keyon Dooling’s jumper, with 1:35 left drew Orlando within 97-95.
However, Charlotte had the answer 15 seconds later when Jones buried a long three from the right corner to make it 100-95.
The Bobcats were solid at the line in the final seconds to secure the win.
Charlotte raced out to a 32-26 advantage after the first 12 minutes and used a dominating second quarter to take control of the game. The Bobcats outscored the Magic 37-25 in the stanza to take a commanding 18-point edge, 69-51, into intermission.
Wallace paced the Bobcats with 20 points at the half while Nelson had 16 for Orlando.
Orlando used a dominating third quarter, in which the Magic outscored Charlotte 28-16, to get back in the game, 85-79.
