Oakland, CA (Basketball News) - Jason Richardson poured in 25 points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out six assists to lead Golden State to a 98-94 win over Orlando at The Arena in Oakland.
Derek Fischer added 18 points and 10 assists for the Warriors, who snapped a four-game skid. Troy Murphy chipped in with 14 points and 20 boards while Mike Dunleavy had 12 off the bench and Mickael Pietrus added 11 in the win.
DeShawn Stevenson recorded 18 points for Orlando, which lost for the 10th consecutive time on the road. Dwight Howard contributed a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards while Keyon Dooling had 13 and Darko Milicic had 12 points and nine boards in the loss.
Down by six points entering the final frame, Golden State got hot from beyond- the-arc to draw closer.
Monta Ellis, Richardson and Dunleavy made consecutive triples for the Warriors to highlight a 9-4 run to start the quarter. The flurry drew Golden State to within one, 74-73, with just under 10 minutes left.
After Garrity made a fade away jumper in the lane, Andris Biedrins gave the Warriors the lead with four consecutive points. The 6-foot-11 forward buried a pair from the line and followed with an emphatic slam to put Golden State on top, 77-76, with 8:20 remaining.
Orlando answered with four straight points over the next minute. Grant Hill connected on a jumper and Milicic followed with a dunk to put the Magic in control, 80-77.
The two teams continued to trade points over the next four minutes. Tony Battie’s short jumper made the score 84-81 Magic with 3:15 on the clock.
The Warriors then went on a 7-0 run to take back the lead. Pietrus converted a triple to deadlock things. Richardson capped the mini-run with a bank shot and a running hook to put Golden State on top, 88-84, with 1:15 remaining.
After Dooling made a pair from the line, Richardson struck again. After a mad scramble for the ball, the Warriors’ swingman found himself open from long range and connected to make it a 90-86 game with just 55 ticks left.
16 seconds later, Richardson extended the lead with two from the line to make it 92-86.
Golden State was good enough from the free throw line in the closing seconds to secure the game.
The Warriors held a slim 26-24 advantage after the first 12 minutes. The Magic bounced back and took a two-point edge into intermission, 50-48.
Orlando led 70-64 after three quarters of play.
