NBA Game Summary - Orlando at San Antonio

San Antonio, TX (Basketball News) - Tim Duncan scored 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a come-from-behind, 94-91 victory over the Orlando Magic at the SBC Center.

Manu Ginobili netted 17 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, for the Spurs, who outscored the Magic 28-15 in the final 12 minutes. Tony Parker collected 13 points and six boards in the win, despite playing with a sore groin.

Malik Rose had 12 points and seven rebounds for San Antonio, which has won two in a row and 10 of its last 12 contests.

Cuttino Mobley paced Orlando with 21 points. Steve Francis chipped in 20 points and nine assists for the Magic, who have dropped three straight. Grant Hill netted 18 points in the loss.

The Spurs trailed by 10 points entering the fourth quarter, but slowly chipped away at the deficit.

Beno Udrih’s three-pointer midway through the period pulled San Antonio within 84-83. After Francis made a layup for Orlando, the Spurs countered with a 9-2 spurt, capped by Rose’s jumper, to grab a 92-88 advantage with 2:42 left.

The Magic were able to get within 94-91 on two foul shots by Francis with 32.7 seconds remaining and then got the ball back following a missed shot by Ginobili.

On the final possession, Francis dribbled around and then forced an off- balance three-pointer from the corner that drew nothing but air and the ball went out of bounds as time expired.

The Spurs started strong, scoring 11 of the first 15 points of the game. Bruce Bowen’s three-pointer with 8:45 left in the opening quarter gave San Antonio a seven-point lead.

The Magic countered with a 10-2 spurt, capped by Hill’s dunk, to move in front 14-13. The rest of the stanza remained tight and ended with the teams deadlocked at 25 apiece.

San Antonio then opened the second quarter with a 16-6 spurt, keyed by six points from Rose, to claim a 41-31 advantage. The margin reached 13 at 48-35 on two free throws by Robert Horry with 5:07 left in the period.

Orlando made a late surge and pulled within 54-48 at the intermission. Mobley and Hedo Turkoglu each nailed three-pointers during a 10-4 run that closed the first half.

The Magic then outscored the Spurs 28-12 in the third quarter to take a 76-66 advantage after 36 minutes.

After Duncan’s basket early in the period gave San Antonio a 58-48 lead, the Magic went on a 22-4 burst to move in front 70-62. Mobley scored nine points and Hill added six during the run.

Orlando stretched the margin to 12 at 76-64, but Rose converted a slam dunk in the final minute to make it a 10-point contest entering the fourth quarter.
