Chicago, IL (Basketball News) - Shawn Marion had a game-highs of 28 points and 16 rebounds to lead Phoenix to a 107-98 overtime win over Chicago in the United Center.
Raja Bell added 19 points and six rebounds for the Suns, who won their fourth consecutive game. Boris Diaw chipped in 16 points while the defending league MVP, Steve Nash, came up just short of a triple double with 14 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.
Kirk Hinrich had 25 points for the Bulls, who lost their sixth consecutive game. Chris Duhon added 16 along with nine rebounds for Chicago while Luol Deng had 16 points and 14 boards.
Marion and Eddie House dominated the overtime period for Phoenix, scoring 13 of the Suns’ 15 points in the extra frame.
Phoenix took control with a 7-0 burst featuring two straight Marion buckets and the dagger, a House trey from the left wing. The flurry gave Phoenix a 101-94 cushion with 1:42 left in overtime.
The Bulls finally answered with a Ben Gordon layup, but any hope of a comeback was quickly spiked when House unfurled a beautiful bounce pass to Marion for an emphatic dunk and a 103-96 Suns’ advantage with just 43 seconds left.
Hinrich drilled a three from straight away to give Chicago a 91-86 lead with 1:44 left. Nash then cut the lead to three when he drove the lane for an a running layup with just 50 ticks left.
After a Gordon miss, Phoenix’s James Jones was fouled driving down the lane. The third-year player made both free throws to cut the Bulls’ cushion to one at 91-90.
Bell fouled Darius Songaila with 18.6 seconds remaining. The former Wake Forest star made just one of two to make it 92-90.
Nash then quickly drove the lane and drew the defense before threading the needle to Marion for an easy lay-in to tie things with six seconds left.
Gordon was given the opportunity to win it, but his runner fell off the rim harmlessly to send things to overtime.
Chicago held a 49-45 halftime lead and took a 75-69 advantage into the fourth quarter.
