Philadelphia, PA (Basketball News) - Allen Iverson poured in 41 points to pace the Philadelphia 76ers to a 109-103 victory over Sacramento, on a night where Peja Stojakovic remained a King after persistent reports of an impending trade.
A deal involving Indiana Pacers troublesome forward Ron Artest and Stojakovic was called off by the Kings after Artest reportedly told the team he did not want to go there. Reports earlier on Tuesday indicated the teams had agreed to swap the two All-Stars and the deal was awaiting approval from the NBA.
Stojakovic didn’t play in Tuesday’s contest, but Mike Bibby picked up the slack by scoring a career-high 44 points for Sacramento, which suffered its third consecutive defeat.
Sixers forward Chris Webber had 17 points and 13 rebounds against his former team, as Philadelphia won its third in a row and swept the Kings in both meetings this season for the first time since March of 1989.
Samuel Dalembert contributed eight points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots, while Kyle Korver came off the bench to score 14 points for the Sixers. Andre Iguodala scored 11 points and hit a key three-pointer with just under two minutes left.
Two Bibby free throws had the Kings within 99-97 with 2:32 remaining, but Iverson fed Iguodala for a three-pointer from the right corner with 1:58 left to extend Philadelphia’s lead to five points.
Dalembert then missed two foul shots with 51 seconds left, but former King Matt Barnes got the offensive rebound and Webber drained two from the foul line with 48.5 seconds to play. Sacramento couldn’t get closer than five after that.
Kevin Martin added 20 points and Francisco Garcia scored 13 for the Kings.
The Sixers led by as many as 12 points in the opening quarter, as Webber’s jumper moved the score to 24-12. However, the Kings scored the next six points and were within 28-21 after one period.
Philadelphia was on top, 50-43, at halftime and were in front 81-74 going into the fourth.
