NBA Game Summary - San Antonio at LA Clippers

Los Angeles, CA (Basketball News) - Robert Horry hit a go-ahead three-pointer and made a game-saving block as time expired in the second overtime, lifting the San Antonio Spurs to a 125-124 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Manu Ginobili scored 40 points with nine assists to lead the Spurs, who have won six of their last eight to pull within one game of Phoenix for first place in the Western Conference.

Tony Parker added 27 points and nine assists in the win, Horry ended with 15 points and Tony Massenburg scored 14 off the bench. San Antonio won despite being outshot 58 percent to 41 percent.

Corey Maggette led LA with 24 points before fouling out in the first overtime. Chris Wilcox and Elton Brand added 21 and 20 points, respectively, for the Clippers, who have lost six of eight. Both Wilcox and Elton Brand also fouled out.

Chris Kaman and Shaun Livingston stepped in to make big plays late for LA. Kaman ended with 20 points, including a game-tying layup in regulation, and Livingston scored 18.

The Clippers took a 120-117 lead in the second overtime when Livingston found Wilcox for a dunk at the 3:15 mark, but Parker’s layup at the other end got San Antonio within a point.

Kaman and Massenburg then exchanged hook shots on consecutive possessions, with Massenburg turning his into a three-point play to tie the game at 122-122 with 1:21 on the clock.

As he had since the end of regulation, Livingston came up big and gave LA the lead with a driving layup. But Horry drained his wide-open three-pointer with just 22.2 seconds left, and followed that by blocking Mikki Moore on a dunk attempt before the horn.

San Antonio rebounded from its worst loss of the season, a 104-68 setback to Dallas on Thursday night.

The Clippers led 78-77 heading into the fourth quarter, but San Antonio went on a 19-6 run late in the game to take a 98-94 lead with 2:58 remaining in regulation.

Marko Jaric’s baseline jumper as time expired on the shot clock got LA within 98-96, but Ginobili did him one better with a three-pointer as San Antonio’s shot clock expired at the other end.

That gave the Spurs a 101-96 advantage, but the Clippers scored seven of the next eight points to take the lead. Maggette scored the final six, including four on free throws. He set up the last two with a steal, giving LA a 103-102 edge with 20 seconds to play in regulation.

Ginobili handed San Antonio a brief 105-103 lead with a three-point play at the other end, driving the lane for a layup and making the ensuing free throw with 15.3 seconds on the clock.

But Kaman came through with a layup for LA, tying the game at 105-105 with seven seconds left in regulation. Parker then missed a mid-range jumper as time ran down, and no one could successfully tip it in before the horn.

Livingston scored six points for LA in the first overtime, including two on a layup that tied it at 116-116 with 25.3 seconds on the clock. That play came after Livingston had fouled Ginobili behind the three-point line, putting a good free throw shooter at the line to give the Spurs a brief two-point lead.

San Antonio opted not to call a timeout on its final possession in the first overtime, and Ginobili missed a potential game-winning layup.

LA shot 61 percent in the first half and led 53-46 at the break, despite Parker’s 20 first half points.
