Seattle, WA (Basketball News) - Ray Allen paced all scorers with 23 points in leading the Seattle SuperSonics to a 94-74 win over the Toronto Raptors at Key Arena.
Rashard Lewis added 22 points and nine rebounds, as the Sonics earned a victory for just the second time in six games. Antonio Daniels handed out a game-high nine assists to halt the Raptors’ three-game road winning streak.
Alvin Williams led Toronto with a season-high 20 points while Vince Carter chipped in with 19. Donyell Marshall recorded a double-double with 16 points and 17 boards for the Raptors, who have dropped only two of their last six contests heading into the All-Star break.
Seattle used an early 8-0 run to assume a 14-4 advantage five minutes into the opening stanza. The Sonics held a 23-15 lead in the closing stages of the period until Carter and Williams made back-to-back buckets to close the gap to four. Williams had 10 points in the first 12 minutes.
Leading 34-30 with just over four minutes to play before the half, Vladimir Radmanovic’s jump shot ignited a 15-4 burst that gave the Sonics a 49-34 lead at the break. Allen, who had 13 in the first half, buried a jumper before Luke Ridnour made one of his own to finish out the scoring.
Toronto made just two of its last seven shots in the half.
After a layup by Vitaly Potapenko extended the lead to 17 points out of the break, the Raptors tried to mount a comeback with seven straight points, narrowing the margin to 51-41 with just 2 1/2 minutes gone by.
However, consecutive jumpers by Calvin Booth and Allen put the Sonics back up by 17 at 64-47 with four minutes left in the frame.
The Raptors showed few signs of making a comeback the rest of the way, as they were outscored 24-19 in a stagnant fourth quarter to round out the contest.
