NBA Game Summary - Utah at Orlando

03.15.2006

Orlando, FL (Basketball News) - Jameer Nelson had 25 points on 10-of-17 shooting and dished out nine assists as the Orlando Magic edged Utah in overtime, 114-108, at TD Waterhouse Centre.

Hedo Turkoglu scored 20 points while Tony Battie posted 19 points and seven rebounds for Orlando, which has won three of its last four contests since losing six in a row. Dwight Howard had a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards.

Mehmet Okur and Carlos Boozer both sprang for 30 points for the Jazz, who have dropped three straight. Okur added 11 rebounds, and Boozer collected 10. Andrei Kirilenko, meanwhile, chipped in 21 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

The Magic, who played front-runner for most of the contest but failed to pull away, owned a five-point lead with 4:45 remaining following a Howard layup.

Utah scored the next six points of the game, though, and assumed a 95-94 edge after Matt Harpring’s lay-in with 2:55 on the clock. The game remained tight down the stretch, and after Howard and Harpring went 1-of-2 from the line at their respective ends of the floor, the game was knotted at 99-99 with time winding down.

Nelson had a chance to win it for Orlando in regulation, but his jumper from the elbow rattled out and the game went to overtime.

With his team trailing by two points in the extra session, Turkoglu took a kickback feed from Nelson and drained a three to put Orlando ahead, 106-105. Harpring answered with a bucket but Battie put the Magic right back on top with a jumper, and Nelson followed with a long two their next trip down to push the advantage to 110-107 with 27 seconds left.

After the Jazz failed to convert on their next possession, Howard sank two free throws to ice the game.

Orlando sprinted out to a 23-14 first quarter lead and went up by 13, 29-16, with about 10 minutes to play in the half following a Turkoglu trey.

The Jazz responded with a 14-5 surge, however — paced by Harpring’s seven points — to cut the deficit to 34-30.

Utah continued to chip away, and scored eight of the final 10 points of the quarter to make it 45-44 at the break.

Harpring finished with 18 points...Orlando is 17-14 as the host this season...Utah, which will also visit Atlanta and Memphis on its current road swing, is 14-18 away from home this season...The Jazz have lost three straight and four of their last five at Orlando...The Magic’s bench outscored Utah’s, 24-5.
