Phoenix, AZ (Basketball News) - Amare Stoudemire collected game-highs of 42 points and 12 rebounds, Steve Nash scored 19 with 18 assists, and Phoenix beat Utah 136-128 in a shootout at America West Arena.
Quentin Richardson added 22 points and Shawn Marion scored 18 for the Suns, who went 15-of-29 on three-pointers on the way to their 10th win in 12 games.
Raja Bell scored 22 points to lead the Jazz, who have lost six of their last eight. Howard Eisley set season-highs with 20 points and 11 assists in the loss before fouling out.
The Suns trailed by as many as nine points in the first half and were down 62-58 at the intermission, but they outscored Utah 40-23 in the third quarter to take a 98-85 lead into the fourth.
Stoudemire scored eight points during a 19-4 Phoenix run to open the third quarter. His three-point play inside the 9:00 mark capped the spurt and gave the Suns a 77-68 lead.
"I took it upon myself to step it up in the second half because we needed that push, and that’s what we got," Stoudemire said.
Utah was as close as 120-117 in the fourth quarter, but Phoenix used an 8-4 spurt to go ahead by seven. Richardson’s three-pointer with 1:21 remaining capped the burst and gave the Suns a 131-124 lead.
Marion later sealed the game on a pair of free throws with 25 seconds remaining, which made it 131-124. The teams combined for 12 free throw attempts after that.
The Suns ended 33-of-42 (79 percent) from the foul line and 44-of-80 (55 percent) from the field. Utah shot 26-of-43 (61 percent) on free throws and was 49-of-89 (55 percent) from the floor.
The Jazz shot a scorching 60 percent from the floor on the way to their 62-58 lead at halftime.
"The first half they were knocking down everything they shot," Marion said. "They were throwing-up rainbows that were going in, but that’s how it goes sometimes."
Stoudemire had 13 points in the first half after scoring just nine while battling the flu in Phoenix’s overtime victory at Golden State on Sunday.
