NBA Game Summary - Washington at Chicago

01.28.2006

Chicago, IL (Basketball News) - Ben Gordon poured in a game-high 26 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead the Chicago Bulls past the Washington Wizards, 90-79, at the United Center.

Tyson Chandler collected 20 rebounds, including 11 at the offensive end, and added 12 points in the win. Luol Deng chipped in 15 points for the Bulls, who have won three straight and four of their last five overall.

"He’s been playing like himself," said Gordon of Chandler. "We’ve been waiting for that all season."

Gilbert Arenas dropped in 23 points while Antawn Jamison netted 21 points and hauled down 10 boards for Washington, which has lost two of its last three contests.

The Wizards trailed by 10 entering the final stanza but rallied to pull within two, 71-69, on a Jamison hook shot with 5:37 remaining in the game.

Deng and Gordon responded with back-to-back lay-ins, however, to push the Bulls’ lead back up to six.

Chicago continued to build a cushion down the stretch and went ahead by nine, 80-71, with under three minutes to play as Darius Songaila took a bounce pass from Gordon and sank a one-handed teardrop in the lane.

The Wizards fought back again and Jamison’s jumper with two minutes left on the clock cut the deficit to four, but Gordon quickly answered with a trey on the other end to help seal the win. It was the Bulls’ first three-pointer since the opening quarter.

"I thought we were very active (defensively) and it won the game for us tonight," said Chicago head coach Scott Skiles.

Chicago sprinted out of the gate to assume a 28-16 advantage after the first 12 minutes of play.

Washington, though, fought back to pull within 47-42 at intermission.

Caron Butler had 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for the Wizards, while teammate Brendan Haywood added 12 points and 13 boards...The Wizards never led in this game...Washington, which will start a brief two-game homestand against Charlotte on Saturday, is 8-13 on the road this season...Washington has lost three straight and four of five in the Windy City...This was the Wizards’ lowest scoring output of the season.
