Chicago terminates Jackson’s contract

05.23.2007

Chicago, IL (Basketball News) - The Chicago Sky terminated the contract of forward Deanna Jackson, just under a month after she was suspended by the team for striking an opposing player after a game in Israel.

Jackson struck Ina Gurevich at the conclusion of a playoff game and the WNBA club responded with an indefinite suspension in late April.

"Although we have been informed that there is still an ongoing investigation of Deanna’s altercation with Ina in Israel, the general nature of the incident is not in dispute," said team owner Michael Alter in a release. "Based upon her decisions and actions that occurred after a game, Deanna has violated her collective bargaining agreement and player contract. The situation is unfortunate, but we and our fans hold our players to a high standard of conduct and because of this we have decided to terminate Deanna’s contract."

Jackson averaged 6.0 points and 3.0 rebounds for the Sky in their inaugural WNBA season last year. She has played in Israel during the WNBA offseason the past two years.
