Bulls place Curry on IL; sign Funderburke

04.18.2005

Chicago, IL (Basketball News) - The Chicago Bulls placed center Eddy Curry on the injured list Monday and signed forward Lawrence Funderburke.

The Curry move has been expected since the club announced last week that he is expected to miss the remainder of the season with an irregular heartbeat. Doctors are still examining the 22-year-old to determine a specific diagnosis and don’t expect to have answers for another five or six weeks.

The 6-foot-9, 230-pound Funderburke has played six NBA seasons, all with the Sacramento Kings. In 316 games, he holds career averages of 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Funderburke, 34, has also appeared in 21 playoff games. Chicago will be participating in the postseason this year for the first time since 1998.

Curry, 22, played in 63 games this season for the Bulls and averaged 16.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest.

The fourth-year center has career averages of 11.8 points and 4.9 boards in 289 career games — all with Chicago, which selected Curry out of high school with the fourth overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft.
